Medway Council Kickstart deemed a success

Six Trainee Housing Information Officers were successfully recruited for Medway Council.

The recent Kickstart campaign for Medway Council got off to an encouraging start with 38 people attending arguably the grandest setting for an Assessment Day yet – the St George’s Centre, Chatham Maritime. This old navy chapel remains a naval memorial centre, managed by the Local Authority, and is rich with windows and memorials dedicated to naval personnel.

The objective was to find 10 candidates for Trainee Housing Information Officer roles at Medway Council, and as usual, the Kickstart team didn’t disappoint. The day progressed well, with the initial 38 being whittled down to 18 interviewees. After interview, 10 candidates were selected to attend a 5 day intensive Housing Training Course with six to be placed at Medway Council. Placements for the remaining four candidates could well be made at neighbouring authorities who have similar staffing needs.

The team leader representing Training Synergy for this Kickstart project, Siva Singh, said:

“Medway Council were very supportive of the Kickstart programme from the start and they were really happy with the Assessment Day as a whole and the high standard of candidate we were able to attract. I felt that everyone who attended today had the right attitude and I am sure that the successful candidates from today will go on to be great employees for Medway Council.”

Vanessa Wilson, Head of Housing Solutions at Medway Council, commented:

“The cost-effective Kickstart programme showed that traditional methods of recruitment would not have brought this calibre of candidate for a trainee vacancy. Many of the attendees were long-term unemployed so to give these people an opportunity to get back into work is a big bonus and supports our regeneration programmes, which we are 100% committed to.  Programmes like Kickstart support the creation of local job opportunities, especially when they are well executed and brilliantly handled like they were today.”
