Giving Recruitment a Kickstart

When the Housing Benefit Verification Framework was introduced, Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council expanded its revenues and benefits department using the ‘Kickstart into Revenues and Benefits’ scheme from recruitment specialist, Synergy. The scheme has proved very successful and, six months on, the Council is adopting it again as part of a further expansion of the department. Andrew Symes, Interim Revenues and Benefits manager at Rhondda Cynon Taf, explains why the scheme has been so effective in helping the Council meet its skilled staff requirement.Following the introduction of the Housing Benefit Verification Framework, Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council needed to implement a programme of recruitment for assessors in its revenues and benefits department.

After looking at a number of different recruitment options, such as using agencies or carrying it out in-house, in 2005 the Council decided to adopt the Kickstart programme from Synergy, specialists in revenues and benefits recruitment.

As a result of the Kickstart programme launched in 2005, the Council employed 12 assessors within its Revenues and Benefits Department.
