Repairs and maintenance
This course aims to introduce you to the important role played by Caretakers, Estates Officers and Scheme Staff across a broad spectrum of work. It is a must in addressing personal health and safety, as well as impacting health and safety issues on tenants and other staff.
The course aims to introduce you to the important front line role played by Caretakers and Estate Officers in the management of premises and estates. This ‘hands-on’ practical session covers the more common plumbing, electrical and carpentry trade problems allowing delegates to feel more confident in tackling repair issues quickly, efficiently and economically.
Course outline
- To examine your role in managing anti-social behaviour and how to work effectively within your organisation’s procedures.
- To examine some of the issues and good practice relating to dealing with problems of drug misuse.
- To explain the principles and processes of effective contract management.
- This course will consider the elements which go to provide an effective repairs reporting service and will provide the skills to effectively deal with requests for repairs
- To provide you with guidance on how to efficiently and safely inspect void or tenanted properties, including health and safety and integration with other procedures.
- To provide staff with an understanding of the causes of condensation, damp and mould growth, to implement prevention methods and appreciate relevant legislation.
- This course is designed to provide housing officers with a greater understanding and appreciation of good health and safety practice on repair and maintenance contracts in regard to Contractor practice and the expectations on all parties on repair, maintenance, refurbishment and modernisation contracts.
- This course will introduce you to the basic forms of housing construction, including timber frame. It is also intended to act as a stepping stone for progression to property Inspection and repairs reporting courses to enable a more accurate diagnosis of the repair reports tenants make.
- This course aims to make delegates aware of how to make the most effective use of resources and deliver the best service to customers. It is essential that management is based on an appreciation and application of appropriate criteria to the choice and production of documentation, and the means by which improvements can be made.

- Under the latest Control of Asbestos Regulations and the current proliferation of property legislation existing generally, every property manager with responsibility for Repairs and Maintenance in the UK is required to have a register or record of the presence of asbestos in its buildings.
- To provide repairs reporting skills training to assist you with your role for taking and ordering appropriate repairs for your leasehold properties, including some shared ownership schemes.
- To examine the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations as they relate to your organisation, and develop an understanding of gas safety issues.
