Presenting with confidence

This programme provides a comprehensive and challenging introduction on how to prepare and deliver presentations with skill and confidence. Pre-work – prepare a 5 min presentation on a subject of own choice.

Process

Practice One – Learners deliver pre-work 5 min presentation – receives feedback from facilitator and learners on strengths and development areas – in a supportive, yet challenging environment

Business Presentations – Define what we mean by a presentation in a business context. Qualities of a presenter. Characteristics of a high impact presentation.

Presentation Life-Cycle – Facilitated discussion to clarify the key steps throughout the presentation life-cycle including need, preparation, delivery and wrap-up.

Structure & Content – Statement of purpose. Knowing your audience. Structuring the content. Finding the right level. Making the best use of time available.

Slides & Handouts – Guidelines on how to develop high impact slides and handouts – purpose, format and timing.

Delivery Techniques – How to maximise personal impact – 3Vs communication model. Verbal – word choice, jargon, etc. Vocal – pace, tone, volume, inflection, etc. Visual – posture, eye contact, hands, facial expressions, movement, positioning, energy. Use of personal notes.

Technology – Review technology available and how to use these effectively – data projectors, white boards, flipcharts, audiovisual, microphones.

Physical Environment – Options for setting up the physical environment. Pre-delivery preparation tips. Preparing for use of technology. 

Practice Two – Learners deliver 5 min presentation – receives feedback from facilitator and learners on strengths and development areas.

Options

Programme can be adapted as a 1 or 2 day workshop for approx. 8 to 10 learners, with 1 or 2 facilitators. Ideal group to include 8 – 10 learners
