Kickstart to Career Development Success
A personal story
When Kickstart programme lead Siva Singh walked into this year’s National Care Forum he came face to face with the results of his hard work. Two years ago he was helping Accord Housing Association find and train budding support workers for their housing projects in the Midlands. At last week’s conference he met Daljit Bains who had come through that programme and in just two years was now running her own 37 bed home, St Peter’s Court in Walsall. The home has recently won three Gold Stars, the highest possible award from the Commission for Social Care Inspection.
“You cannot believe how pleased I was to meet Daljit and hear how well she has done and how much she still really enjoys her work” said Siva, “And it just shows how programmes like Kickstart can really turn things round for people and benefit not just them and our clients but the community at large.”
For Daljit there are no regrets: “I think the programme gave me the opportunity to show my abilities, develop my skills and really kickstart my career in care.”
So where does Daljit see herself two years from now? “I have been given so much support since I came to Accord, that I can easily see myself running a team of housing managers and giving them the same support and guidance to succeed like me and help vulnerable tenants enjoy the quality of housing they deserve.”
