Training-needs analysis

Trainnig-needs analysis

Before embarking on a training programme, it is essential to first evaluate the current skills of those who will be trained.

A key flaw in the off-the-shelf training course model is that people are often trained on subjects that they already know. Not only is this wasteful of time, it undermines the learning process, making learners bored so that when new topics do arise, they are less receptive.

For this – and other – reasons, all of the training projects that Training Synergy provides are bespoke. To deliver exactly the right training solution it’s vital to understand the current skills and knowledge of those who are to be trained.

We achieve this through a training-needs analysis programme. How the programme is undertaken is agreed with the client, and the training needs analysis programme itself is created as a bespoke activity to ensure relevance.

The people who are to be trained will be surveyed using a tool which is appropriate to the number of people and number/complexity of questions to which answers are needed. The aim is to have as short a training needs analysis as is possible, so that maximum uptake is assured, but with enough detail on which to base decisions.

The resulting data is assessed by our training consultants who will report back their findings and recommendations to the client. A successful training-needs analysis programme will not only help to determine those topics which need to be taught, but also the best training methods to use (such as classroom training or e-learning – or perhaps a blended learning approach).

This up-front investment in time is an important step – perhaps the most important – in creating a successful, streamlined and cost-effective training programme.

Only by measuring the current skills of those to be trained can the most effective training programme be created.
