High-impact presentations
This programme provides a highly challenging experiential process that enhances personal style in delivering presentations with maximum impact. Pre-work – prepare a 5 min high impact presentation on a subject of own choice.
Level
This programme is appropriate for learners at intermediate to advanced levels.
Objectives
- To clarify what we mean by a HIP
- To identify the qualities & characteristics of a HI presenter
- To raise awareness of personal style as a HI presenter
- To appreciate the challenge of co-presenting and how to succeed
- To develop a facilitative style that enhances audience participation
- To identify how to respond to difficult people / situations
- To develop confidence in HIP – demonstrations & 3 practice sessions
Process
Practice One – Learners deliver pre-work 5 min HIP – receive feedback from facilitator and learners on style, strengths and development areas – in a supportive, yet challenging environment.
What is a HIP? – Syndicate group exercise – identify what a HIP means, qualities / characteristics of HI presenters, typical impediments to HIPs.
What is my Style? – Raise awareness on personal style, strengths and development areas. Communication styles – doer, actor, friend, thinker. Self-assessment. Impact of personal style. Personal styles in the audience – flexing style to match others.
Practice Two – Learners deliver 2 min impromptu HIP – receives feedback from facilitator and learners on style, strengths and development areas.
Co-Presenting – Syndicate group exercise on co-presenting – advantages, challenges, the audience’s perspective – awareness of impact of personal style on co-presenter.
Audience Participation – Discussion on the importance of audience participation. Feelings associated with audience participation. Q & A techniques.
Practice Three – Working in pairs – learners prepare and deliver a 10 min co-presented HIP. Facilitated discussion on co-presenting, receives feedback on style, strengths and development areas.
Difficult People – Identify types of difficult people / situations. Effect on presenter and audience. Three-fold response – self-management, situation management, group management.
Managing Anxiety – Understand anxiety and its impact. Techniques to handle anxiety. Anxiety as a positive energy.
Options
Programme can be adapted as a 1 day workshop for approx. 8 to 10 learners, with 1 or 2 facilitators – number of facilitators impacts on number of practical sessions.
