We live in a diverse society, and need to get along with our neighbours and colleagues whatever our differences.

  • Diversity for Social Care Workers

    Staff in social care settings will frequently be working alongside and supporting individuals whose cultural, religious and other beliefs or lifestyle choices are different to theirs.

    This one day course is intended to enable care and support staff to understand issues around diversity and how they can respect and support the rights of individuals whom they are supporting to exercise choices around culture and lifestyle.

    Learning Outcomes

    By the end of this course learners should be able to understand:

    • Diversity in everyday life
    • The legislative framework relating to equality and diversity
    • The importance of working in a person centered way that is non-discriminatory and enables service users to express their individuality
    • How their own values may impact upon their practice
    • How to support iservice to make choices and decisions about their lifestyle and support

    How to ensure that service users are aware of their own responsibilities regarding the diverse needs of others

    Training methods

    This is a participative course and methods will include:

    • Group work
    • Word shower/discussion
    • Role play (where appropriate)
    • Communication games
    • Feedback
    • PowerPoint presentations
